It’s our pleasure to announce that the states of Alzheimer’s Australia have now merged into one unified organisation called Dementia Australia. It’s an exciting step on our journey towards a future without dementia, and creates an unprecedented opportunity to improve our existing services and support.
As you may already be aware, more than 413,100 Australians are currently living with dementia. As these numbers will only grow over the coming years, there’s a pressing need to reach more people. Dementia Australia will help that happen.
Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia will reach more than one million by 2056. Dementia Australia can move forward with a central focus to face this challenge head on, funding the crucial research needed to find answers faster.
While we are seeking a cure, people who are already living with dementia need our continued support. We will now be better equipped to not only maintain existing services, but to grow support for those in need right now.
I hope you are as excited about the merger as we are. Dementia is the second-leading cause of death in Australia, and people are looking to us to be the leading light across Australia and a beacon of hope for the future – and we believe that Dementia Australia will be that beacon.
This means that as of 2018, each participant who registers for Memory Walk & Jog will be walking or running for Dementia Australia - and we couldn’t be more proud.
