I'm taking part in the Adelaide Memory Walk & Jog for my Grandfather Don and raising funds for people with dementia!
A progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age due to generalized degeneration of the brain.
400,000 Australian’s have dementia.
Nearly 1 in 10 people over the age of 65 have dementia.
By 2058, over one million people will have dementia.
Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia.
These statistics tell me that it’s likely you know someone with Dementia. I definitely did.
I don’t really remember a time when my grandpa wasn’t affected by this unforgiving disease which eventually robbed him of his independence and loving personality. This also meant that we, his family, were robbed of years with a social, generous and dedicated family man.
In October 2018, my grandpa lost his battle with dementia. We were often faced with tough circumstances where we had to make difficult decisions which were made easier through the support offered by Dementia Australia.
On Sunday 29 March, I’ll be taking part in the Adelaide Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support people with dementia.
All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.
