I’m doing a MY Memory Walk & Jog for my Uncle Doug and to raise funds for people with dementia!
Anyone who knows me knows how special the bond was between me and my Uncle Doug. Apparently he saw me as a Daughter and I was the apple of his eye. Il never forget the memories we have as a family with him from bonfires at the sailing club to the annual Boxing Day at Mums house. Tragically Doug didn’t get to enjoy his retirement as he very quickly deteriorated with Alzheimer’s. In the 18 months that I had been away in Australia he had gone from being my loving uncle to being unrecognisable. It was heart breaking for all of us to watch. I’m sure I will long for just one more day with him for the rest of my life.
I’m completing the memory walk to raise funds for Dementia Australia. Although Doug never made it to Australia to visit me I know he would have absolutely adored it here Mx hiking, travelling, sailing. He would have been in his element.
I’ll be completing a MY Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support people with dementia.

All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training.
Anything you can pledge to support this fundraiser will be gratefully received. It will help people get the support they need and will hopefully support them in being there with their family to make a few more memories for them to cherish.
I’m not gonna lie, the thought of walking kills me but what kills me more is knowing millions of other people like me will loose their loved ones to this devastating disease. As we are heading into winter this is gonna be an even bigger challenge for me but it’s one I am eager to complete. Every step I take I know my uncle doug will be walking along side me.
Sorry for such a long read but it’s a cause that’s really dear to me and close to my heart.
