Dancing Queens Running to Paradise for Jen
On Sunday 15th March, we’re taking part in the Adelaide Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds for Australians impacted by dementia - a cause that is deeply personal, deeply emotional, and very much a MAMMA MIA, HERE WE GO AGAIN 🎶 situation.
We’re walking for Mum. A true country woman. The kind of person who would drop everything to help anyone - no questions asked, no recognition needed. If you needed something, she was already on her way. Kindness wasn’t a choice for her, it was her default setting. A real life SUPER TROUPER 🎶.
When early onset symptoms developed, our world shifted fast. Living rurally meant accessing specialist care wasn’t always easy, which is a reality too many country families know all too well. Distance should never decide diagnosis, support or outcomes. Support matters, and rural and regional healthcare needs to be strong, accessible, and supported - because dementia does not care about postcodes. SOS 🎶 to the gaps, and a big VOULEZ-VOUS 🎶 to doing better.
Our local community supported Mum for a lifetime. The memory walk & jog is our way of reaching out, raising awareness and giving back to the community that carried us through and continues to. If you ever checked in, lent a hand, or simply cared - consider this our collective THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC 🎶 moment.
And speaking of music… it was always playing. Aussie classics filled the house but Abba held a special place. It became comfort, chaos, therapy and soundtrack all rolled into one. They reminded us to TAKE A CHANCE 🎶 on hope, to keep going even when the WINNER TAKES IT ALL 🎶 felt unfair and that joy and grief can absolutely be felt together - sometimes in the same song!
Not many people realise that dementia is Australia’s leading cause of death. By 2058, more than 800,000 Australians are expected to be living with dementia, but this does not have to be our WATERLOO 🎶. We can change the future if we keep showing up, speaking up and walking forward together.
All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia, helping provide counselling, support groups, education, and vital research because no family should feel alone on this journey.
If you’re able to donate, please know it would mean the world to me. Let’s walk, jog, remember, give back and fight dementia together with love, community and maybe a little disco energy - because in the end, love really does take it all 💛 🎶🕺💃
