We're raising money for Will's Grandfather, Geoff and my Grandmother, Josephine, and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.

On Sunday, 15 March, Will and I will be running 10 km in Adelaide’s Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds for Australians impacted by dementia — a cause that is incredibly close to our hearts.

We have both experienced what this disease can do to a family. Dementia doesn’t just take someone once; it takes them slowly, piece by piece. From the moment of diagnosis, you begin to grieve while they are still here. Memories fade, conversations change, and the person you love gradually slips further away.

When I was 13, my grandma was diagnosed with dementia. The dynamic of our relationship changed from her looking after me to me helping look after her. Watching someone who had always been a source of comfort slowly lose their memory and sense of self was something no child is ever prepared for.

We’re running to honour our grandparents, to raise awareness, and to support the research and services that make such a difference to families living with dementia.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058, it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.
