2 weeks to go to donate

It’s just over 2 weeks before I do the jog so thought I would put the fund raising request out there a couple more times.

To make a bit more real I thought I’d let you know more about my Dad Reg and his journey.

My dad was born in western Queensland in 1944 and lived with his 9 brothers and sisters till he was 11. His dad was a drover so away a lot and Nana MAC struggled to make ends meet. So at the age of eleven dad went droving his first run was a thousand miles and his paly ment was his food and a saddle. He thought his lucked changed at 13 when he got a building apprenticeship at 13 and the rest he built him self. Raising 3 kids balancing a building company and a farm and finally retiring at 70. If you can call just running the farm retirement.

Any way mum and him just started do trips round Australia in a drive on drive off camper Dad designed and built, when early onset dementia came knocking.

In 2 short years he went from a fit active man to a missing person for three days on the farm. So time for respite and to think of the next steps. We chose what we thought was a progressive respite service and dad went in for a few weeks. He went in talking, continent and not on medication. But came out drugged up in a nappy and barely talking.

So like many others we looked for permanent care and we’re lucky to find a place near mums. But have watched his care and activities generally decline over time he used to get mobilised daily now it once a week and where cognitive activities were also daily they also now only happen weekly.

As a result he can no longer talk, or realy walk and in my opinion has zero quality of life.

Dad said to me at the start of the dementia journey “boy if the memory problems get real bad just help me drive onto the river” which incidentally borders our farm and was where he was found when he went missing.

So why am I fund raising as Dads journey is nearly done you ask? In short anything I can do to stop another individual or family going through this I will. I have now done the dementia walk for over Six years and don’t intend to stop soon.

Please give as little or as much as you can to help however is next to get this horrible illness.

. Every little bit counts, and donating is simple; all you need to do is visit my fundraising page:

It would also mean a lot if you could share my fundraising page on social media. The more exposure I get, the faster I will reach my fundraising goal!

And…Why not join me on the day? It's super easy, you just need to visit www.memorywalk.com.au to register.

Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia. The more people we can reach out to in the community the better. Let’s continue to work towards giving family and friends hope that a future without dementia is possible.

Thank you so much for your support,

Help me raise money in honour of my Dad, Reg and the 400,000 Australian’s living with dementia.

On Sunday, 24 March, I'm taking part in Adelaide's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australian's impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Please make a donation to support my efforts and help us reach our goal to beat dementia.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's second-leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australian's will have dementia. But we can change this.

All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. Your donation would mean the world to me.

Thanks for your support!
