Share my fundraising effort with your network and let's beat dementia, together.

I'm raising money for my Mum, Jane and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.

On Sunday, 22 February, Zoe, Noah, Molly (the dog) and I are again taking part in Canberra's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Please make a donation to support our efforts and help us reach our goal to beat dementia.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.

All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. Your donation would mean the world to me.

Thanks for your support!

My Updates

We did it!

We had a beautiful morning for the Memory Walk & Jog today. Hundreds turned out for a joyful and moving event by Lake Burley-Griffin, with participants wearing the name of the person they were thinking about on their backs as they ran or walked.

Thank you for all of you who donated to Dementia Australia - I smashed my goal, raising over $2,000 - and for the kind words and thoughts received. Your support and empathy mean the world.

And this time, Molly got a medal too, which she was very proud of, as well as interested in whether it could be a snack.

Let's beat dementia - Jane's story

My mum Jane is storyteller. A few years ago, she wrote a book, Jackjumper, so vividly you could smell the frying indian spices and see the ramshackle cottages battered by Tasmanian winds. She is a pioneer. At a time when learning Australian history at school started with the First Fleet, she taught children about 60,000 years of Aboriginal life in Australia, invasion, war and dispossession. She is an adventurer. She's travelled the world, taking quirky photos, walking, eating and drinking her way through Europe, India, South-East Asia with her trusty friends. She's a mother, and grandmother with a passion for painting colourful and cute motifs for the walls of our kids' bedrooms.

So it is heartbreaking to see how dementia has slowly stripped her of these essential parts of her being. For mum, the loss of language has possibly been the saddest aspect of this disease. Anxiety, fear, and loss of control all impact upon her daily life, and those around her. It's a grief that hard to describe, because it's incremental, a steady sad pull.

Dementia Australia does an amazing job at providing services to those with dementia and their carers and families. I'm hoping I can do my little bit to support them. Thank you.
