A message from Darwin Virtual DIY Memory Walk & Jog host, Jenna

"Dementia has become a big part of my life. But my Dad will always be a bigger part of my life. My Dad was diagnosed with younger onset dementia in 2015. But I don't want that to be what defines him as a person. He is my hero, my moral compass, my friend and the glue that keeps me and my family - even if he doesn't even know it! I want this walk to be about celebrating your loved ones who live with dementia. Dementia changed my family and it is not an easy path to walk but it also taught us to love just that little bit more.

I am calling on you to join me, my family and friends and the whole of the NT to take a walk or a jog (or even a bike ride) in support of people living with dementia, their family and their carers. You do not even have to be in the NT to participate - all you have to do is sign up and take yourself out for a 'socially distanced' walk or jog on 9 May 2020. I plan to start my walk at 7am (because it gets so hot here in Darwin!). You can walk to the fridge or around the block or you can walk for 10km. You can even take your furry friends. The choice is yours. And the good news is, that however far you walk, you are doing it for a great cause and a fabulous organisation - Dementia Australia.

There is currently an estimated 459,000 people living with all forms of dementia. Without a major medical breakthrough this figure is projected to increase to 1,076,000 people by 2058.

I wish for a cure. In the meantime I want everyone to know that they are not alone and that there is support there for you.

Your $20 entry fee is a donation to Dementia Australia and you are most welcome to donate more - that of course, would be amazing!"

How do I create or join a team?

When you first register their will be a section called ‘Create your page’. On the bottom of this page there is a section to create or join a team. Just follow the steps and you should be good to go!

If you have already registered, just search for the team. Click on the teams' fundraising page and then the yellow 'Join Team' button.

If you are already registered and want to create a brand new team, simply log in to your account go to your dashboard and then an option will appear to create a team. Simply follow the prompts and you're all set up.

I want to fundraise. How do I get started?

We also get you started with your own, editable fundraising page when you register for an event (you’ll receive a link in your registration email).
