Still hope

On Saturday, 6 June, I'm taking part in Redcliffe's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Sadly my beautiful father passed away last year. While I no longer fundraise for a cure to be found for Dad, I am not willing to give up. I want no other daughter (or son), to watch a parent they love unconditionally, slip away a little more each time they see them.

Everybody with dementia has somebody who loves them and is hurting - be it a daughter, son, grandchild or spouse. All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure. This has been invaluable in my personal journey.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.

Together we can achieve a lot. Your donation would mean the world to me.

Thanks for your support!

I'm on my way to becoming a Gold Level Fundraiser. Can you support me with a small donation?

My Updates

Keep going

Just over a week to go before we do the Memory Walk again.
A lot has happened since the one I attended last year. After the event last year I gave Dad a Memory Walk and Jog
t-shirt. It sat on the back of a chair in his room in the care facility for a while, and was a talking point when I visited. Yes, the same one each time, but it didn't matter - Dad and I were chatting.
Sadly I won't be stopping in to see Dad on my way home this year, as he is no longer there. What I will be doing is thinking how proud Dad would be of me for not giving up now he is gone. He was my strength and purpose for committing to the event each year - to find a cure for dementia - to return the strong father to me that I loved and adored. Of course I knew he was never coming back, time was not on his side, but it was a driving force.
Dad was a strong believer in battling for the underdogs that deserved something better. This is why I will keep going each year and participating in this walk - to help raise money to find a cure. Those suffering dementia, and their friends and families also suffering because of the journey, don't deserve the hurt and pain that accompanies it. I don't have any medical or scientific knowledge to help find a cure, but I am healthy and can walk. I can walk to raise money to help research.
