On Sunday, 24 May, I'm taking part in Sydney's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.
All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Our Story 🩵
We walk in memory of our Dear Dad, Father in law and Nannu Emmanuel who we lost on the 27th July last year.
Also in honour of our Uncle and Aunties, who are suffering and who have suffered with this disease.
Approximately six years ago we had started to noticed a change in Dads behaviour, he had been on medication for anxiety for a little while, but it seemed to stop working.
After a trip to the Doctor to voice our concerns Dad was sent for a scan, which confirmed his diagnosis of right frontal lobe dementia.
I remember speaking through it with Mum, then with each of my four brothers to let them know. We were in shock, my initial fear was Dad forgetting us all, forgetting his family who love him so much.
We went through a difficult phase, where Dad would get frustrated as he wasn’t able to express himself the way he once was able to and at times we couldn’t exactly know and understand how exactly to help him.
In the later stages he would make us laugh with some of his comments, some unheard stories from his childhood were told to us and we made each day one to remember.
Mums roll changed from wife, to wife and full time carer, we all pulled in to help care for him, it wasn’t always easy but we wouldn’t have had it any other way. We will be forever grateful that we were able to keep him at home right until the end.
The long goodbye is how it was explained to me, and this was so true, in the later stages of Dads battle we grew to love a new version of our Dad, and sadly each day say goodbye to the version of Dad we grew up with.
This is why we chose to do this walk as a family, to pull together, show strength and raise funds to beat Dementia! 🩵
