I'm raising money for my Mum, and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.

We're remembering Nina (Mum) by Jogging for Gioia!

On Saturday, 6 June, the Ucchino family will come together for the Redcliffe Memory Walk & Jog to show our love and support for people and carers impacted by dementia. We are taking part in memory of our mum, mother-in-law and Nonna - Nina, who passed away in 2025 from dementia. It was a terribly slow and sad goodbye, and we truly saw the worst and the best of dementia care.

We hope this awful disease never touches yours, or our lives again ...  and we need your support to help make this a possibility.

Funds raised through Dementia Australia's the Memory Walk and Jog help provide vital services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to find a cure.

So what are we jogging for exactly ... what does "gioia" mean?  Simply put, it means 'joy' in Italian, but it means so much more to us. Whether it was a 'oh gioia', a worried gioia, a surprised gioia, a happy to see you gioia, a comforting gioia, an ENOUGH gioia or a can you help me gioia, it was Nina's way of expressing love.

Mum was our gioia - she brought love and light to everyone around her, and we will always remember the joy she brought to our world - whether it was through her presence, her cooking, her sewing, her conversation or her genuine care and kindness for others. We are truly grateful for your support of this cause - whether it's joining us to jog the 5km, making a donation, taking time to understand how to best support someone with dementia or perhaps sitting down for a cup of tea with a carer - your contribution makes an impact.
