Share my fundraising effort with your network and let's beat dementia, together.

I'm raising money in honour of my mum, and the estimated 55 million people living with dementia worldwide.

On Sunday, 29 March, I'm taking part in Perth's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support people impacted by dementia. Two years ago, my mum was unexpectedly diagnosed with early onset dementia at only 65 years old. Not a day passes when her disease doesn't impact her and those around her and I know that we are only one of many millions of families worldwide who feel the same way.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.

All money my team and I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. Thanks for your support!

I'm only $58.03 away from becoming a Silver Level Fundraiser. Will you help get me there?

My Updates

4 weeks to go

A couple of years ago my mum was diagnosed with dementia, at 65. There were very little suspicions, until it was too late and she was in hospital. Delirium from dehydration because she forgot to drink water. A nasty, septic wound on her leg that went untreated after a fall no one knew about. An antibiotic resistant UTI strain which required all visitors to fully gown up, no hugs. And a dementia diagnosis.

Last year, when the diagnosis was too fresh to be publicly vulnerable about it, I took part in the Memory Walk & Jog, a dementia charity event, with some very special people (and dogs 🐶). I was still finding my way into this new world of grieving someone who's still physically with you while everything that made them the person you love is slipping away. So, my contribution was limited to showing up in numbers, to raising awareness - and at the same time, see just how many people around me had loved ones they had lost or were losing to dementia, too.

This year, with the walk coming up again at the end of March, I wanted to do a little more to help raise awareness and funds for dementia research. Over the next few weeks leading up to the event, I’ll be sharing some small stories, memories, and things I’ve learned along the way. If you have any questions about my mum or dementia in general, let me know, too, and I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

And if this is something that resonates with you or you’d just like to support the cause, every little donation helps but also no pressure — even reading or sharing means a lot.

This is for you, mum 💛
