Share my fundraising effort with your network and let's beat dementia, together.

I'm raising money for my Mum, Ann Pearce and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.

On Sunday, 22 February, I'm taking part in Canberra's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Please make a donation to support my efforts and help us reach our goal to beat dementia.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.

All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. Your donation would mean the world to me.

Thanks for your support!

I'm only $113.47 away from becoming a Bronze Level Fundraiser. Will you help get me there?

My Updates

Ann Frances Pearce, 1947-2025

My mother, Ann Pearce, was a funny, passionate, loving, energetic and outgoing soul, who easily made lasting friendships and enjoyed life to the max.

Mum was just 21 years old when I was born. She was my friend, confidante, supporter, adviser, travel and event organiser; she was by my side when my son was born and guided me during the first six weeks of being a first time, anxious mother. I miss her every day, in every way.

Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's just over ten years ago. It was a fear that we had long held, as her mother also had Alzheimer's.

While the disease was slow at first to progress, the final couple of years were terrible, desperately sad times, as Mum lost her memories, her identity, and ability to care for herself. It was like a beautiful intricate jigsaw losing random pieces until the picture was unrecognizable.

Throughout this time, we all did our best to provide comfort, care and support for Mum and her great love and husband of more than 40 years, Bob. It was Bob who had the most difficult time of us all; yet he weathered every storm and showed the greatest depth of love and compassion.

For many years, Mum and Bob lived in Caloundra, in an apartment overlooking Pumicestone Passage and the northern tip of Bribie Island. Mum derived so much joy looking at this particular picturesque view of the Sunshine Coast.

This month our family came together to honour Mum's last wishes, to scatter her ashes and give her a final resting spot in the area she loved.

Mum's story was much more than the Alzheimer's disease that took her away from us, of course.

It's for this reason, that my son and I are participating in this event, to honour Mum and to raise funds for research and support for those like her, and families like ours.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Wishing you love and peace.
Kerry
