I'm raising money in memory of my Nan, Connie Miers and Mother-in-Law Carol Wiedman and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.
On Sunday, 14 June, I'm taking part in Brisbane's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support. Dementia isn’t just a word to me — it’s personal. I’ve lived through the heartbreak of watching two women I loved deeply be affected by this cruel disease.
My Nan, Connie, was one of the most special people in my life. Watching dementia slowly take pieces of her away was heartbreaking. It doesn’t happen overnight. It quietly steals memories, moments, conversations and parts of the person you know and love.
Then I experienced it all over again with my mother-in-law, Carol Wiedman. It was heartbreaking to witness my husband saying goodbye to his Mum earlier this year with the utmost unwavering dedication and was a testament to his love … watching them slowly fade before your eyes is something I struggle to put into words. You sit there wishing you could fix it, wishing you could bring back the person you remember so clearly, wishing love alone could make it disappear.
Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed — it affects entire families. It changes lives, creates heartbreak and leaves families feeling helpless as they watch the people they love become strangers to themselves.
That is why this event means so much to me.
I’m participating in memory of my Nan Connie and my mother-in-law Carol, 2 Angels Gone Too Soon AND for every family currently living through this journey. I’m hoping that one day no family has to experience the pain of watching someone they love be taken by this cruel disease.
Any donation, no matter how small, means so much and helps support research, education and services for families impacted by dementia.
Together we can make a difference🙏
