Walking for Dad : Raising money for Dementia research, prevention and cure

On Sunday 22 February, in Canberra, I’m taking part in the Memory Walk for Dementia Australia. Every year since my Nan passed our extended family band together somewhere around the country for this important fundraiser. 

This year, is extra heartfelt and I’ll be walking in memory of my dad, David Cassidy, who passed away in September last year as well as in memory of his little sister (my aunty) Robyn Maynard, who passed away just 3 months before him. Both taken by this horrid disease. 

Dementia took so much from dad and from us long before we had to say goodbye. It slowly changed the person he was, stealing memories, independence, and moments we can never get back. Remembering how we watched dads ‘larger than life’ personality slowly dissipate is something that I can never shake and just isn't darn fair.  

I’m raising money because I don’t want this disease to keep taking without a fight 🖕. I’m walking for families who are living this reality right now, for carers who are exhausted and grieving while still showing up every day, and for the people living with dementia who deserve better care, understanding, and above all, hope.

This walk is for you Dad. I know you will be walking with us 💛
