Trinas Pitsakos

Share my fundraising effort with your network and let's beat dementia, together.

I'm raising money in memory of our Dad, George Pitsakos and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.

On Saturday, 2 May, I'm taking part in Ballarat's Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Please make a donation to support my efforts and help us reach our goal to beat dementia.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's leading cause of death. By 2058 it's expected that over 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.

All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. Your donation would mean the world to me.

Thanks for your support!

My Updates

The countdown is now on!

Thank you all once again to my fabulous sponsors for your generosity, words of comfort, encouragement and support.

With your continued contributions, I have almost achieved my revised target of $2000. However as I continue to reach out to friends and old work colleagues, together, I believe we can achieve more.

With only 2 weeks left to go, let's raise the stakes again and collectively make a difference to the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's and Dementia by supporting Dementia Australia and the remarkable work they do.

Please help me reach my new goal of $2500, so that I can realise 'Platinum Level Dementia Warrior' status.

We're all grateful for any amount you can give.

With sincere appreciation,
Trinas

Reaching for the stars

Thank you again to my wonderful sponsors for your words of encouragement and support with raising over $800 in the last 3 weeks.

With 6 weeks to go, please help me reach the ambitious revised target of $2000.

All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Lets do this together.

Help me honour my beloved Dad by supporting Dementia Australia.

My Dad - my best mate

Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease seven years ago. His diagnosis left us devastated and distraught as we had previously lost our grandmother to dementia some ten years earlier. As such, we were well aware of the uncertain future ahead as we came to terms with the fact that the person who we knew, loved and adored, would gradually slip away from us over an unknown period of time.

Cherishing each day going forward, making new memories and reminiscing of old, became important and an integral part of daily life. Laughter was also important as Dad was a very witty man, with a great sense of humor which thankfully, he never lost.

During the first few years I witnessed Dad's gradual decline and increased frustration as he adjusted to the changes dementia brought to his life. Not being able to drive his car anymore was one of the most difficult decisions for Dad to accept.

Dad loved the outdoors and farm life. Living at my place in Central Victoria during COVID was a blessing as it gave him a sense of independence and purpose, enabling him to wander safely around the farm and potter about at his leisure.

Dad's independence slowly decreased and his reliance on others to assist with basic tasks such as buttoning up his shirt or putting his shoes on the right feet increased. Recognising these challenges and being able to support Dad through these changes with love, dignity and respect was paramount.

In the early years, Dementia Australia was instrumental in my education and raising my awareness as to the symptoms Dad may experience going forward and how best to navigate challenging situations as they arose. It goes without saying, Dementia Australia's website is a wealth of knowledge, as were the regular webinars and listening to the stories of other families and carers participating in the same. Knowing that you were not alone and that there was always someone to talk to at the end of the phone and seek advice, understanding and support was invaluable.

In later year's as Dad's symptoms increased, we called upon Dementia Support Australia who were integral in supporting Dad through the more challenging and difficult situations initially in the home environment and later, when Dad transitioned into residential aged care. The effects of dementia vary from person to person, as do the processes to de-escalate a challenging situation. Dementia Support Australia are experts in this field and we cannot thank them enough for their support and guidance through some of the most difficult and challenging circumstances throughout our journey.

If you’re able to support me with a donation for Dementia Australia and the wonderful work they perform, I would be sincerely grateful.

Fundraising goal increases to $1000

Thank you to all my amazing sponsors who have donated today (9 March 2026), I am overjoyed by your generosity and enthusiasm. I have reached my initial target of $500 in only several days since sharing this event with friends and family. As such, I have decided to increase my fundraising goal to $1000.

For those of you who are yet to donate, please do so if you can and help me reach Gold Dementia Warrior status.

With sincere gratitude,
Trinas
