Share my fundraising effort with your network and let's beat dementia, together.

I'm raising money for my Anonymous , and the 433,300 Australians living with dementia.

This Sunday I’ll be walking in the Memory Jog Walk for Dementia Australia — and this year, it means more to me than ever.

I’ve kept this fairly quiet, but here goes.

On the 31st of October last year, while training for the run, I suffered a heart attack. Completely out of the blue, I was told I would need open heart surgery — a quintuple bypass.

On the 6th of November, I underwent a 7-hour operation. My chest cavity was opened, my heart was stopped, and an incredible cardiothoracic team went to work bypassing five blocked arteries.

I woke up in ICU cold, afraid, and confused. It’s all a bit of a blur, but what I remember most clearly is the comfort of having Andrea and the boys by my side. Their support meant everything.

Soon enough I was back on the ward. At that point, the idea of doing the Memory Jog Walk felt impossible. But I made a promise to myself that if I could, I would still walk.

With the incredible support of the cardiac rehabilitation team at The Canberra Hospital, I’ve slowly rebuilt my strength and endurance. It may not look like what I originally set out to achieve — but this Sunday I will proudly walk 5km.

I’ll be doing it alongside the amazing team from Goodwin Aged Care, who have been so supportive in helping me return to work and regain a sense of normality.

I’m asking for your support through a donation to Dementia Australia.

Dementia is now a bigger killer in Australia than heart disease. It affects so many families, and the work being done to support research, care, and families living with dementia is vital.

If you’re able to donate please follow the link below  — no matter how small — it would mean the world to me.
