Tamika Piller-Curran

Share my fundraising effort with your network and let's beat dementia, together.

Please help me raise money in honour of my Granny, Ros Piller. We miss you. Hopefully this goes a small way to helping those living with Alzheimer's or Dementia.

On Sunday, 8 June, Brisbane Memory Walk & Jog, to raise funds to support Australians impacted by dementia. This is a cause close to my heart and I would love your support.

Please make a donation to support my efforts and help us reach our goal to beat dementia.

Not many people know, but dementia is Australia's second-leading cause of death and the number of people impacted is only going up. By 2054 it's expected that more than 800,000 Australians will have dementia. But we can change this.

All money I raise will support the work of Dementia Australia and help provide vital support services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to help find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. Your donation would mean the world to me.

Thanks for your support!

My Updates

πŸ’œ for Granny πŸ’œ

I remember lots of small moments, that all built up into one big loss.

Small things at first, like getting confused about who was who. My granny embracing my partner (who was 20 at the time), thinking it was my dad who had similar dark curly hair when he was young. Granny seeming increasing lost and putting things away in strange places (like car keys). To bigger losses, like her voice and the ability to share her own stories.

I remember being a little kid and snuggling up to hear stories of my Granny’s adventures. About her travelling when she was younger to the UK, breaking hearts and being an absolute riot of colour, in human form. Of her meeting my grandad in the UK, falling in love and of my dad growing up in Australia.

There’s a special kind of sorrow in no longer hearing your loved one speak, to hear their stories and ask questions only they know the answers to. Dementia and Alzheimer’s can mean that your loved one is still with you, but in some ways, already gone.

We didn't lose my Granny in one day, like lots of people do. We lost small pieces over time, which is a unique type of loss and grief. You are forced to say goodbye, in many small ways, before your loved one even leaves this world.

I hope in some small way, bringing awareness and fundraising, means that less families in future understand this story ❀

Please donate if you can
